Ceiling fresco, Tegernsee Abbey, GermanyPosted by MadScientist (Düsseldorf, Germany) on 25 January 2008 in Art & Design. The former Benedictine monastery at Tegernsee, Bavaria, hosts the local Catholic parish church of Saint Quirinus and is a fine example of Baroque refurbishment after the disastrous Thirty Years' War (1618-1648). The photograph shows one of the many paintings on the ceiling, where folk belief and tradition meets masterly painting. Here's another shot that I took there. My (old) coffee-table book of selected postings. More MadScientist: eclecticimaging.tumblr.com, the guy behind this blog

@Porcsin: Quite typical paintings for churches in the southern parts of Germany :) @Michael Skorulski: Thank you! This church is very neat, it has a very 'clean' appearance. @Scott Collins: I was quite lucky, it was a hot summer day and interior was illuminated well. @Harald: Danke! Light was no problem, the sun was great :) @Michael: Naja, Bayern ist ja nicht weit von Italien, da hat man sich wohl was abgeschaut :-) @Steven: Thank you Steven! The whole church was filled with paintings and stucco like this, it was very enjoyable! @Oswegan: Maybe you like this one, too :-) @Barbara: Yes, this is very decorative! Also it is a citation of the 'national' colours of Bavaria which are blue and white. @Japanalia: You're right, that's a very beautiful effect! Since light was almost perfect that day, contours and colours came out very well :) |
