News From Germania InferiorPosted by MadScientist (Düsseldorf, Germany) on 6 February 2008 in Architecture and Portfolio. Same location, same day: the variation of this shot shows the arches of the amphitheater in Xanten seen from the other side. I prefer this shot, because it doesn't have the sharp contrasts of the other one and the walls look much older because of the chalk coming out of the brickwork. What do you think? Michael Skorulski from Cigel, SlovakiaI prefer this. It is a wonderful interesting photo. It looks like such an interesting place to explore. 6 Feb 2008 6:48am @Michael Skorulski: Actually, it's a rather small site. It is is located at an archaeological park where some buildings have been rebuilt, like this one, a big portal, a restaurant, parts of a temple, and some minor buildings. the lightwriter from oosterwolde, NetherlandsHi MS! This one is great. One subject, composition has everything, beautiful detail and the monochromatic use of colour puts the attention shape and perspective. BE-AU-TI-FUL 6 Feb 2008 8:04am @the lightwriter: Thank you very much! Xanthen is definitely worth a visit, highly recommended! @e.: Yes, this circular structure is very interesting! Thank you very much! @Eleftheria, 9 years old,: Thank you very much :-) @eddy: Thanks, much appreciated! Steven from Montreal, CanadaI like the contrast between the right side of the arches which are stained and the left which look pristine. The exposure is perfect! 6 Feb 2008 10:47am @Steven: Yes, I think the overall picture is much more in harmony here. Thanks! Scott Collins from Ontario, California, United StatesAnd yet another brilliant shot. I never get tired of seeing your photos. 6 Feb 2008 2:06pm @Scott Collins: Thank you so much! You made my day! :-) @paola veneziani photography: Thank you. Glad that you like it :) Laurie from New Jersey, United StatesI like this one better too. Great detail and repetitive pattern. It leads the eye nicely. 6 Feb 2008 4:55pm @Laurie: Yes, I think you are right. Lights, colour and angle are here much better. Thanks a lot! @Ina: Thank you very much, Ina! Scotfot from Kabul, AfghanistanThis one is the winner by far, the composition with the curve of the series of arches is excellent and the lighting is Wow! 6 Feb 2008 7:58pm @Scotfot: Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoy! Laurent from Lyon, Francelike the shot it refer to, the perspective is great on this one 6 Feb 2008 8:02pm @Laurent: I also prefer this one, thanks, Laurent (though it is slightly blurrier than the other one). baobab from Cambridge, United StatesThis one is the winner... one can really feel the curve of the arches leading into the frame, and the softer contrast works better for the old bricks. The light is more subtle: looking at it for a while the brighter light in the nearground and farground (relative to the dimmer area under the arches) makes one want to walk through the arches to see the source of the light. 6 Feb 2008 10:21pm @baobab: I think that hits the mark, thank you very much! danthro from Suburbia, United Statesi like this one better. cooler composition. it'd be interesting to see what'd look like in monochrome. nice shot. 6 Feb 2008 11:11pm @danthro: I'll give that a try and see if it's worth publishing. Thank you very much! Sandrine from Cincinnati, United StatesGreat Depth to this shot! i like how I am drawn in! I would have cropped the top of the photo a little... 7 Feb 2008 3:04am @Sandrine: That triangle in the upper left corner is a little bit annoying, that's right :-) Thank you very much for commenting! @JoeB: I prefer this one, too. So much difference just by turning to the left :-) Michael from Wuppertal, GermanySchönes Bild, zieht den Betrachter richtig hinein! @Brites: Glad that you like it :-) I'm always hunting for Roman artifacts. @bill: Thank you! Glad that you like it! :-) Daily Phototherapy from Sacramento, United StatesNice perspective. It really takes advantage of the nature arch lines. Beautiful. 13 Jun 2008 4:13am @Daily Phototherapy: Thanks! I love this 'pure' kind of architecture. |
