@Porcsin: Thanks to you! However, I would do it differently, next time: I'd purchase a wide-angle lens, I'd save my photos in RAW format(!), I'd do multiple shots with different exposures, I'd use my tripod more often. This would minimize the random factor significantly!
If you're unlucky with shots at dark places: sometimes it's just the camera (my first one wasn't very cheap but nonetheless a complete mess), sometimes it's just know-how: my playground and training area is my church at home around the corner where I can test and tinker all the shots I'm doing in the big churches. You'll get practice and learn how to handle difficult light situations :-)

@badala: Thank you very much :-) A more overall shot can be seen tomorrow, you'll get an impression of the whole nave, then.

@Kaddy: Thanks, Kaddy! The builders were using a lot of white marble in this church, it's a very light room with many bluish pastel colors and a lot of gold-plated ornaments. More about this tomorrow :-)

@Brites: *lol* No, the windows were closed (though rain in Rome is a serious thing ;-)

@Tracey: I've got many windows left for you :-) Last week I was shooting the new glass window at Cologne Cathedral. I haven't reviewed my pictures yet...

@Steven: Essentially good shots like this one who lack important details made me come to the decision that it's much wiser to let the camera save the pictures in RAW format. I like this shot, too, but it could be way better! :-)
