Above the Rooftops of RomePosted by MadScientist (Düsseldorf, Germany) on 19 February 2008 in Cityscape & Urban and Portfolio. Let's go out for a walk! Oh, I could kill for that house in the foreground! Just look at this wonderful roof terrace! Download my coffee-table book of selected postings here. Enjoy!

Michael Skorulski from Cigel, SlovakiaIt is gorgeous and I know what you mean about the house. 19 Feb 2008 6:51am @Michael Skorulski: I could immediately move into there :-) @Craiger: The only problem there is to find a parking lot! :-) @Kelly: You bet :-) But some of the effect results from the zoom I did here. the lightwriter from oosterwolde, Netherlandsi love the course of the light intensity from the fore- to the background. And yes, dining on this terrace on a bit sweltering summer night with cold sparkling italian wine and some seafood would be acceptable ;) 19 Feb 2008 11:57am @the lightwriter: This could save even a messy day, indeed :-) Steven from Chicagoland, United StatesThat's our time share! We're there every May. ;-) 19 Feb 2008 4:52pm @Steven: Thank you, Steven! If this was the house of somebody I know, this would greatly intensify our friendship ;-) MaryB from Staffordshire, United KingdomAhhhh! this is an amazing view! A wonderful composition MS. 19 Feb 2008 8:10pm @MaryB: To live in this house would come very close to my fantasies of the proverbial 'good life'. *sigh* Jen from Alpharetta, United StatesMeet you on the roof for coffee!! 20 Feb 2008 2:02am @Jen: Very good idea, Jen :-) Glad you like it! @Kaddy: Thank you, Kaddy :-) Ina from Krugersdorp, South AfricaI totally agree! Great house - you have captured the landscape well! 20 Feb 2008 2:46pm @Ina: Thank you: this was an extreme zoom. 20 Feb 2008 10:48pm @Porcsin: The big church in the background is St. Peter's. I did an extreme zoom here, stretching for several house blocks. And, yes, these buildings are simply great (but unaffordable)! @Twelvebit: Thanks! I was standing on one of Rome's hills and suddenly had this fantastic sight. Japanalia from Yokohama, JapanI don't know how comfortable that house might be inside (I mean sanitary installations, hot water and heating which are a problem in old buildings), BUT...I totally agree that the terrace is a delight! I saw this use of the upper floors and roofs in Italy for relaxation in a variety of shots from the peninsula. The houses in the southern half tend to indulge in this view over the city (and to the sea, when it is the case).I really like the way you managed to focus on this house in the foreground! It has a rather exotic look! 26 Feb 2008 5:22am @Japanalia: You're right: old houses sometimes are just nightmares! I'm living in a rather old house from the 30s and still encounter problems with heating and drainpipes, even after several repairs! ;-( gandz from Kharkiv, Ukrainewell, who cares about sanitation when you have a view like that! I don't))) 2 Apr 2008 7:13pm @gandz: Never underestimate sanitation (lesson learned from a former tenancy)! :-) Twelvebit from Victoria, United StatesI tell you what, I'd like to be living in that place in the foreground. 2 Apr 2008 10:20pm @Twelvebit: Me too! But I think this building is in permanent possession since the year one :-) |
