Gateway to Heaven

Maundy Thursday - let's go to church! Do you remember Sant'Ignacio in Rome? Maybe you wondered how so many painting would fit on the ceiling and how this intriguing sky effect could work? This shot tries to give you a pointer to the solution: standing at the end of the nave (we just strode the portal and turned around), we're looking upwards and look at a magnificent portal structure, accompanied by various celestial figures. But this scene is completely virtual, because this church has a barrel vault and does not extend into heaven. We're standing here at a perfect angle to let the illusion work, a small marker on the floor indicates the optimal position.

The next shot of this series will break this illusion.
