Situated in the south of Düsseldorf is Benrath Palace, built for the Elector Palatine Carl Theodor von der Pfalz by Nicolas de Pigage from 1755 to 1770. Being a hunting and recreation château, it marks a then common french architectural style between Rococo and Neo-Classicism. Today it hosts two museums and an art exhibition hall. In summer this location is a popular place for music events.
This would be a location where one can forget about the maddening crowds! My only problem here is the sky.......the upper part of the shot is a little compromised. BUT....for the sake of the view and the beautiful architecture....I can only thank you for showing!

@Japanalia: Yes, the sky! In the original photo it is completely bleached out (one of these hazy days so typical for my region). But I wanted to experiment with my new toy and tried to get as much as possible of this sky. Compared to the original, I'm not that unsatisfied - with the exception of the visible pixel effects in the upper right corner. I'm still trying :-) Well, this location looks quiet and peaceful, but as always in Düsseldorf, it's surrounded by streets and heavy car traffic. The only calm place here is the really nice park behind the castle.
What magificent buildings, in a perfect setting. Wonderful MS.

@MaryB: That delicate pink is the original colour, maybe an optical marker for the more recreational purpose of this castle :)
Thank you so much for always giving me an answer to the comments! I'll be back and around to see more as I was busy a long time and could not visit and comment! Gabriela

@Japanalia: If people are so great to put a comment on my blog, I deem it an honour to give a response. I'm looking forward to your next wonderful photos! :-)
Nice perspective for this pink palace. May be, it would be more stronger in panoramic size : grey water, grey dramatic sky and pink palace just in the middle...?

@Evelyne Dubos: I think you're right. Perhaps I should have clipped most part of the sky. Next time! :-)
Excellent capture! Great colors and the sky is just perfect for this shot. Well done!

@Ina: Thanks a lot! Though I think that a blue sky would have also been nice :)
It has a strange surrealistic look about it, and yes it would br better cropped.
8 May 2008 11:30am
@Observing: That was intended :-) I'm still not sure about the cropping but I'll try this next time. If there had been more cloud patterns in the sky, I'd say it's okay, but so it's too much empty space.
I actually like the formations within the sky. And I don't find it to be a distraction. But this shot sure illustrates the expansiveness of the "estate."

@Steven: Thanks, Steven! Maybe that big empty space would look more interesting with more irregular cloud patterns in it... Next time!
Genauso hab ichs in Erinnerung.

@Alun Lambert: Thanks, Alun!
There is a dramatic and beautiful sky in fact and I agree with the suggestion given for a big crop of it (where the white turn in a visible cloud on the right border). This will give a symetric composition which is nice.

@akarui: That's how I'll do it next time :-)
Ah, those were the good old days, when all the peasants knew their place.

@Twelvebit: Don't laugh: I'd give a lot to have a life in the 18th century. One of the most exciting in human history.
