Located at Düsseldorf's Kaiserteich (Kaiser pond), the Ständehaus has been opened to the public in 2002 after extensive renovations. Today it is used for art exhibitions (what else!), in former times it was the place of the local Prussian regional parliament (the Rhineland was part of Prussia after the defeat of Napoleon). Construction was 1876 - 1880.
Interesting information, beautiful building, excellent capture!

@Ina: Thanks, Ina! One of the few buildings here that is allowed to make an impact because there's enough space around.
It is a beautiful building and you have photographed it very well.

@Michael Skorulski: Thank you, Michael!
Fabulous building, probably hyper-modern in its day with that glass roof ? Excellent image.

@Observing: That roof is quite cool: I've been on an exhibition there, you have a great panoramic view from there.
An interesting building! Unexpected style of roof for this kind of architecture....but it must be a bonus for the exhibitions! The light touching the statue in front ( I like the green colour!) and the pond is warming up the whole structure. You found a great angle and the composition is attractive!

@Japanalia: Thanks a lot! This roof is indeed remarkable, the panoramic view from there is really beautiful. I'll tell more about that statue in my next posting :)

@Anthony Lambert: Thanks! Like Munich, I sometime like to call Düsseldorf the 'Las Vegas of Germany', because it's a city that got its real importance not until the beginning of the 19th century. So there's not too much history here compared to cities like Cologne (or even smaller ones, like Neuss).

And the glass roof was original? Interesting.

@Twelvebit: No, that was installed a few years ago. A very cool construction that allows a fine panoramic view.
Beautiful light and picture. Interesting mixture of old and modern architecture.

@akarui: This building was abandoned for some years. Using it just for art exhibitions seems to be a stopgap to me - it's just too easy to place some voluminous works of art in there. Though it's a public building there are only a few people visiting this place.
