Encephalartos is a genus of the cycad family. I shot this doozy at the botanical garden of Cologne (can't remember the species name).
Ein sehr interessantes und schönes Foto...die Details sind bemerkenswert!

@Nina: Danke! Ist auch eine tolle Pflanze, etwa zwei Meter hoch, muß etwa 100 Jahre alt (oder älter) sein.
Almost an abstract. Super image, MS.

@Michael Skorulski: Quite an impressive plant! Thanks, Michael!
This reminds me of the skin of a pineapple, a great b&w abstract shot MS/

@MaryB: This is just the stem; but cycads produce cones that resemble the surface of pineappes (or the cones of conifers). It's a very ancient group of plants - and they are awfully slow growers!
the b/w so applies here .. its an amazing shot.

@MahGol: Thanks, MahGol! At home I have three cycads and I'm always waiting ages for them to produce a frond or two. This specimen here must be 100 years old (or even older)!
Interesting texture, yes it looks like abstract picture.

@Evelyne Dubos: I have another photo of an exceptional plant that has an even more interesting bark. Soon :-)
Looks like stone pavement.

@Twelvebit: Now that you mention it...
I thought it was a macro of elephant skin when I saw the thumbnail! Great texture and detail!

@Tracey: "macro of elephant skin" - "Don't move, Jumbo!" *lol* Thanks, Tracey :-)
Vey nice BW abstract picture. There is a black space in the low right which doesn't work very well. You could try to clone (copy) some surrounding to fill that space. A good picture anyway.

@akarui: Thanks a lot! But cloning - you know I'm lazy... ;-)
Strong patterns. I really enjoy your B+W's.

@Daily Phototherapy: Thanks! I think B/W is a must here, in colour it's just bark.
