Regular visitors of this blog know that I'm hooked on primitive and extraordinary plants. Here's another one: Sequoiadendron giganteum not only does get very large, but it is also capable of surviving forest fires (actually it profits from them) and can get pretty old.
My own redwood is less than 1m high, think I'll have to wait for some hundred years until it gets reasonable height. I wonder who will water it in 1000, 2000, 3000 years. Anyone...?
An interesting perspective and lovely textures make this a very good image!

@Michael Skorulski: Thanks, Michael! With 100 years approx. this is a rather young redwood, but it definitely has potential :)
You chose a very special angle here and the beauty as well as the magnetic power of the tree come over through the screen!

@Japanalia: Thanks a lot! I find these really big organisms absolutely fascinating!
The angle shows the might of the tree, and the sharpness is very good.

@JoeB: Yes, a nice one, though not that large as the really big one in California! We'll have to wait for another 1000 years.
I like the angle from below.

@Ana Lúcia: I was going to try the angle from above but my wife didn't want me to do that! ;-)
Grandios! Das erinnert mich an unseren Besuch im Nat. History Museum in London. :-)

@Michael: Ich hege da große Hoffnungen in mein Mammutbäumchen! Irgendwann ist schließlich auf dem Balkon kein Platz mehr...
A simple, yet interesting view up the tree. It does a nice job of filling the frame. As to who will be watering 1,000 years from now, let's just hope earth is still around then. ;-)

@Steven: I'm pretty sure about this :-) Btw: soon after the war Sequoia enthusiasts planted a lot of redwoods not far from my home - just if you ever happen to visit Kaldenkirchen and have some desire for Redwoods! ;-)
Just beautiful! Like your angle :)

@Ina: Now please don't think I'm a tree hugger ;-)
yes i agree, great angle of view who show us well texture and incredible shapes of branches.

@Evelyne Dubos: And this is still a young tree, I guess it's only 100 years old.
Beautiful shape and textures in the bark and branches of this tree, love the angle of this shot MS.

@MaryB: Hope I'll see a *really* large sequioa one day! Thanks, Mary!
Very strong looking tree, although the branches are twisted everyway. Good pov shot.

@Observing: Thank you! When it will be 'grown up' its branches will be as big as normal-sized trees: quite an impressive plant!
that's a superb angle and excellent composition... really strong and powerful looking tree and the green crown tops it off nicely!

@DarkElf: Thanks a lot! I made another shot from a few meters away but I think this one is much more interesting and impressive.
Knarly, dude.

@Twelvebit: Cool, eh? And it's still a baby! :-)
I like this picture. Beautiful.
