The short and sad story about Saint Adolfus was already been told. I don't have much data about this beautiful church: consecrated at Oct. 25, 1914, mostly destroyed in WW II, rebuilt in the 1950s. A real beauty, used by an active parish. I can see it every day on my way to work.
Excellent composition. I really like the color of the building.

@Michael Skorulski: This is made of sandstone that adopts the colour of sunlight easily. I've made this shot in the evening and the light was rather warm, though it was a day in december.
the light is superb on this one. If you see it every day with this light, it must be a real pleasure.

@Laurent: It is, but unfortunately the sun doesn't shine everyday here :-)
Great shadows and lights! You can take superb church photos from out too! Thanks!

@Porcsin: This is not a light I enjoy everyday here, so I had to make a few shots. To get a good shot from outside is indeed quite difficult; I'm always amused when people are standing in front of Cologne Cathedral and trying to get a picture of it with the tiny cams in their mobile phones...
The towers look different to English towers or steeples, it's a good photo MS.

@Observing: Glad you like it, Mike! This is a rather typical Neo-Romanesque church as they were built from 1870 - 1918 in Germany. These "neo"-style churches are rather common here, you'll find them almost everywhere.
How wonderful to be able to see this everyday, a magnificent church, it looks amazing in the sunlight.

@MaryB: Wished this kind of sunlight would happen more often here... :-)
Interesting work with the shadow in this composition. Gives me the feeling of something ominous that is going to happen.

@Steven: Not at all :-) In this (coincidentially) darker corner is the kindergarten - a modern building that wouldn't really fit to the church and that I let 'disappear' in the shadow :)
Beautiful picture.

@Sammi: Thanks, Sammi, glad you like it!
Sorry haven't said "hi" in a while. Crazy busy. I hope all settles down next week! Great shot of the exterior. The lighting is very dramatic!

@Tracey: No worries! I'm holding the fort while you're busy :-)
The sun is low and the lighting very good on this beautiful church. There might be a green color cast (not very sure) and you could try a quick color balance correction to see how it looks like.

@akarui: I did that already - and the warm light disappeared, giving the church a slight red tone! I think it's better so :-)
you got some nice light going on the structure, well presented!

@DarkElf: Thanks! That was on a rare sunny day in winter '05.
Sehr schönes Licht, Stimmung gut eingefangen!

@Michael: Wär' ja auch 'ne Schande gewesen, wenn nicht! ;-)
Just like in your previous posting of this beautiful, yet sober piece of architecture, the light is used with great skill; it creates the atmosphere that this building invites through its history.

@Japanalia: Thank you so much! I agree: light is of vital importance here.
I like this architecture.

@Twelvebit: Me too! Ironically they would not look that good if they wouldn't have been destroyed in the war and rebuilt after.
