"Now look at this funny MadScientist! Recycling photos of his Blechnum gibbum again!"
Please allow me to correct you, my gentle readers; you are perfectly right in recognizing the correct species name: this is of course a Blechnum, but not a gibbum as it is available at the nursery next door! May I introduce: Blechnum brasiliense in all its beauty with its wonderful red shoots!
No, this is no balcony shot. It's been made at Botanical Garden, Cologne. And now I wonder when it's time to collect some of its spores, because I want such a fern...
Love the deep rich colors and excellent detail!

@Michael Skorulski: Thank you! I chose ISO 1600 to get more DOF here. I'm quite satisfied with this.
Lovely example MS. I was looking at a fern tree yesterday in the garden centre, imported from Tasmania and over £100. It's still there ;)

@Observing: That's quite expensive, so I guess it's a large and rather old specimen. Young ones (Dicksonia or Cyathea) are available at much lower prices (I paid 20 Euros for my Dicksonia, it grows like hell).
There are beautiful these green & red leaves !! And we don't see any noise, Eos 300D is good for hight ISO

@Evelyne Dubos: The original image actually has some noise. But enhancing contrast, resizing and a bit sharpening after that virtually erases that noise. The light in the greenhouse where I shot this photo was sufficient, but I wanted to have more DOF, so I raised the ISO. It's okay :-)
Klasse!

Gorgeous!!!!

@Jen: Yes, it's a beauty!
Nice colors between the green and red purple leaves.

@akarui: These leaves later turn green, a really nice fern.
I've never seen this one with red fronds, but is looks positively spectacular!

@Japanalia: This is not so seldom as you might think: many ferns produce quite colourful shoots that later turn green. My favourite ferns are variegated (multi-coloured) species like Athyrium niponicum, a species from Japan :)
Ferndiferous.

@Twelvebit: Nice one, huh?
