Santa Francesca Romana, RomePosted by MadScientist (Düsseldorf, Germany) on 22 June 2008 in Architecture. Santa Francesca Romana seen from the Palatine hill (history and details). These clouds in the background evolved into very heavy rainfall and soaked my wife and me up to the pants. Download my coffee-table book of selected postings here. Enjoy!

Michael Skorulski from Cigel, Hong KongThe soft light really makes this excellent composition! 22 Jun 2008 5:19am @Michael Skorulski: A late afternoon shot in December, thanks, Michael! Laurent from Lyon, FranceLike Michael, the very good composition is enhanced by the super light. 22 Jun 2008 5:25am @Laurent: Thanks, Laurent! That was not the only one wet surprise! When in Rome in December, do as the Romans do and have an umbrella with you! @Ekaputra Tupamahu: Thanks so much :) Observing from Local, GibraltarAn exceptionally good image, the light is perfect, the view is great, and the framing with the shrubs means excellent work :) You've passed :) 22 Jun 2008 10:04am @Observing: Thanks, Mike! Sometimes it's a bit burdensome always to find a good sight and to have your camera ready, there are so many in this city. I'm glad we stayed there for almost two weeks! Evelyne Dubos from Le Mans, FranceNice point of view with great sky & light. But for me it's a little underexposed, and i think a little bit more bright contrast will be better... just a suggestion. :-) 22 Jun 2008 11:21am @Evelyne Dubos: Yes, I played with brightness a little bit and even tried to make the colours look cooler, but this one, I think, matches the atmosphere of that late December afternoon the best. Since this is a really old church I decided that the more mellow light was more suitable, that's why :) Anthony Lambert from GermanyRealy nice shot, good composition and the scene is wonderful. 22 Jun 2008 11:22am @Anthony Lambert: Thanks so much, Anthony! Interestingly, most of the old forum buildings survived because they were later used as churches. Buildings that weren't so happy often were demolished later. @Ted: Thanks, Ted, much appreciated! @Jen: Thanks! :) Tracey from White Hall, United StatesOne of my favorites from you! Simply amazing. The clouds in the background are fantastic and the lighting is gorgeous. I gave it 5 stars! 22 Jun 2008 2:29pm @Tracey: Thanks, Tracey! These clouds... yes, I paid a high price! :-) MaryB from Staffordshire, United KingdomBeautiful light it really captures the impending rain storm beautifully. 22 Jun 2008 4:00pm @MaryB: If I just hadn't known that before! We were in the middle of nothing (no umbrella, of course!) when that rain began! *shudder* ;-) @akarui: The light before thunderstorms is often very beautiful. However, I wished I could have avoided this peculiar one :-) Ronnie 2¢ from London, United KingdomSo unmistakably Italian . . love those towers and, of course, that special light. 23 Jun 2008 12:48pm @Ronnie 2¢: These Romanesque towers have a very distinctive beauty, most of them are decored with colourful tiles. They look very different to the ones in the northern parts of Europe, though. Twelvebit from Victoria, United StatesNice shot. It pleases me that you kept the dark tones and didn't try to lighten this up. 23 Jun 2008 10:08pm @Twelvebit: Actually I tried this and it didn't work. I was there in winter and why should I pretend to having been there in July? Japanalia from Yokohama, JapanThe soft light over the beautiful architectural lines really makes this shot! You managed here great atmosphere and the sky helped, too! 27 Jun 2008 6:52am @Japanalia: One of those atmospheric skies that arise before the floodgates of heaven are opened :-) @Marie: Les Romains aiment le drame! :-) |
