"They don't build like this anymore."

Questioner: Aaaah, yes, very interesting! So what do we see here?

MadScientist: First, Germans don't dress too elegantly during the weekend (this is a shot from Saturday).

Questioner: Oh!

MadScientist: Second, they don't keep their old churches clean, except this bright corner.

Questioner: Oh?

MadScientist: Yes, this is a corner of Cologne Cathedral. For decades this part of the facade was just a patchwork of brickstones, toilsomely concealing remaining damages of WW II. Three years ago the Dombauhütte, the Cathedral Building Lodge of Cologne, successors of the medieval cathedral builders, initiated reconstruction works. And they finally succeeded last year! But as you can see, these newer parts already start turning black like the old parts of the building due to auto emissions.

Questioner: That means...

MadScientist: Two things: the city of Cologne, if not the state of Northrhine-Westphalia should ask themselves why they constantly refuse to clean up the cathedral as the commune of Paris did so a few years ago with theirs. If you look at recent photos of Notre Dame de Paris, you'll see what I mean.
Second: lots of people think that they don't build like this anymore. This is obviously wrong, the bright parts you can see here are completely new. It's not the question if they can but if they want to and if they're able to pay for it.

Questioner: Ah!
