The Flavian Amphitheatre, also known as the Colosseum. We'll discuss this subject in a later posting. This is one of my early night shots.
I am dead jealous! Of all the shots I have of Rome, without a tripod, I failed to get a decent night time shot of the Colosseum. This is not just 'decent' it's very, very good!

@Ted: I had to pay a price for this. For our ten-day-trip to Rome I had my tripod at hand. I used it only once (the session I made this shot) and almost risked a rupture when carrying our not so light baggage. It was hard. I was so wimpish.
Beautiful!

@Eleftheria!: Thank you, Eleftheria! I'm sure the Acropolis at night is a nice sight as well!
A stunning night shot MS, love the way you've captured the moon too.

@MaryB: Thanks, Mary! Wished I already had my zoom lens then, maybe I could have made the moon a bit bigger! :)
The light from the inside is very warm, being affectionate to the building. The moon in its circular glow is a bit strange.

@JoeB: But don't you feel its energy?! ;-)
Fantastic!

@Ekaputra Tupamahu: Thanks very much!
wow -- stupendous shot here mate! the glows in the arches make this almost surreal against the pitchblack night. the effect is simply massive! bravo!

@dj.tigersprout: Thanks very much! Massive indeed! Considering that a big part of the Colosseum has been demolished during the centuries makes it even more impressive. The sight at night is just breathtaking.
excellent capture - the composition, the colors, the lighting - all great. I'm jealous!

@Kevin: Thanks! (I took many test shots at home to be prepared for this :-) If you look at my 'portfolio' page you'll see that I often have to handle bad light conditions. I'm still learning.)
one again I love the composition. The light is also superb. Except the fact that the black is a little bit noisy otherwise it would have been just perfect. here it is only "almost" perfect ;o). I wish for you, that you will be able to see the Vercors. If you do not found the plant you are looking at, don't worry, the landscape are just superb there. It is probably my favourite mountain in France.

@Laurent: You're right: I've seen my image on a different display and noticed that dang noise (don't see it on my display at home). So what! :-D A trip to the Vercors would be great, indeed! I'm not a mountaineer (neither is my wife!) but to experience a wildlife that is less tame than the parks at home is something I'm in dire need of :-)
Great angle of view for this night shot of Colosseum. Well done.

@Evelyne Dubos: Thanks, Evelyne! I'm especially glad because these were my first 'real' night shots after some test captures at home.
Simply outstanding photograph. Your composition is excellent, and the various shades of light have been captured perfectly.

@Observing: It's very cool that you don't have to wait for this light: this lightshow happens every night!
A great shot... was here in 2005... an amazing place...

@Fliss: Thanks, Fliss! Glad to hear that!
Beautiful night shot of the Colosseum. The moon is a plus in the picture.

@akarui: Yes, that was a nice surprise when I was there. Could have been a bit larger, though :)
superb angle! real good! the glowing light inside ads a certain eerie feeling and the moon caps it off beautifully...
28 Jun 2008 3:22am
@DarkElf: A vespertine service by the city of Rome! (Not the moon, of course! ;-)
Oh,oh,oh! This is something!!! I love it! You found a good angle and did a beautiful job! My compliments!

@Japanalia: My pleasure :)
Magnificent angle! The light is superb, excellent work!

@Ina: If it would have been a failure, I would have been able to retry, as the Colosseum is illuminated daily :)
Klasse Schuss!
