St. Marien, BonnPosted by MadScientist (Düsseldorf, Germany) on 30 June 2008 in Architecture. You're walking through the small town you were living in ten years ago. You are still not sure whether to turn right and to make some shots of beautiful buildings and streets or to eventually visit this small church you only were passing by all these years, because you weren't intereted at all, you were busy, you had different problems, you... I went to that small church. Same location as yesterday, opposite side of the street: St. Marien in downtown Bonn, hidden behind an architectural abberation of the Seventies. It was built 1887-1892 and although it doesn't look too exciting from the outside, I can promise you that it is one of the finest Neo-gothic churches I've ever seen. Absolutely pure design, very well preserved, fabulous handcraft and an exquisite interior. I've made many photos. Soon. Download my coffee-table book of selected postings here. Enjoy!
