St. Remigius, BonnPosted by MadScientist (Düsseldorf, Germany) on 4 July 2008 in Architecture. Another small transept-less church inmidst the city of Bonn: St. Remigius, the old church of the Minorite order, built from 1272-1317. It has a hard fate, as over the centuries too many troops in too many wars pillaged and threatened to burn it. Only few items have survived, among them the sculpture of St. Mary by Jeremias Geisselbrunn (left pillar in the background). Ludwig van Beethoven has been baptized here (his birth house is just a few streets away), later he played the organ, of which only the keyboard is still extant. Today it's hosting the ecumenical Chemin Neuf community and the so-called Nightfever prayers, a mass in the spirit of World Youth Day. Download my coffee-table book of selected postings here. Enjoy!
