Red VeinsPosted by MadScientist (Düsseldorf, Germany) on 5 August 2008 in Plant & Nature and Portfolio. Unedited photo. The upper side of the leaves was green, the underside had this beautiful red tone, thanks to carotenoids, xanthophylls, and anthocyanins. Matches the colours of yesterday's shot. :-) Download my coffee-table book of selected postings here. Enjoy!

dj.tigersprout from San Bruno, United Stateswow -- so visceral!!! like blood veins! marvelous! what kind of tree or bush? 5 Aug 2008 6:12am @dj.tigersprout: Unfortunately I don't know (there wasn't any sign), it was a bush among others that grows outside (so no tropical plant). This strong colour is indeed remarkable. Ana Lúcia from Leiria, PortugalVery lush colors with the red/orange and green/yellow combination. 5 Aug 2008 8:26am @Ana Lúcia: Very noticeable, indeed! Thanks! Observing from West Cheshire, United KingdomRemarkably like veins, very good shot. NB: Physalis franchetii is the name of my plant. 5 Aug 2008 9:24am @Observing: Thanks! Linerberry from Sumner, Christchurch, New ZealandWow fascinating! You can almost feel the blood running through the veins....if there was blood that is!!! Superb 5 Aug 2008 9:36am @Linerberry: The similarity to blood vessels is indeed remarkable. Thanks very much! @Michael Skorulski: I'm quite satisfied as I didn't even look through the viewfinder. A lucky shot. :-) Laurent from Lyon, Francevery nice details and colors. A lovely close up. 5 Aug 2008 11:24am @Laurent: Yes, a striking red, indeed! JoeB from Brampton, CanadaIt is very human in appearance, makes for a great abstract but not as appetizing as yesterday's. 5 Aug 2008 12:57pm @JoeB: Who knows? I didn't eat one of these leaves, but I could offer an experiment on myself. :-) Steven from Chicagoland, United StatesA nice macro here capturing what looks like blood pumping through the veins. Are those bright spots lesions or build-up of plaque? ;-) 5 Aug 2008 1:35pm @Steven: If you put some Aspirin into the irrigation water, liquids will flow much faster through the veins. ;-) @Veronelle: Yes, like pure energy pumping through the veins! Thanks! :-) Evelyne Dubos from Le Mans, FranceGreat close-up. Very strange indeed, we don't first if it's a leaf or something inside human body... well done. 5 Aug 2008 5:19pm @Evelyne Dubos: No gory effects, no splatter here, just innocent plants... :-) @Ina: Thanks very much, Ina! akarui from Kagoshima, JapanVery good macro with narrow DOF. Beautiful details and colors. 5 Aug 2008 11:39pm @akarui: Yes, this was a nice surprise :-) Laurie from New Jersey, United StatesI really like this. The detail is beautiful. I love the luminous look too. 6 Aug 2008 12:01am @Laurie: Thanks very much, Laurie! Japanalia from Yokohama, JapanIndeed, it reminds me of veins...and you did a great job here with the details and colour! 6 Aug 2008 11:30am @Japanalia: Thank you so much, Gabriela! Twelvebit from Victoria, United StatesMy first reaction to this image was the "Fantastic Voyage." 7 Aug 2008 4:18pm @Twelvebit: See the sequel! Fight evil Phytophtora spores to save the last Wollemia nobilis! @shadebox: Thanks! That was a lucky shot as I couldn't crouch beneath the plant and I had to 'blindly' take this photo. @B.Held: Thank you so much! |
