The Count's RowboatPosted by MadScientist (Düsseldorf, Germany) on 27 September 2008 in Cityscape & Urban and Portfolio. Spotted at Lemgo's Brake Castle. If you plan a visit: don't miss the exhibition on Hans Rottenhammer's paintings. Download my coffee-table book of selected postings here. Enjoy!

Ted from South Wales, United KingdomLike this one very much...especially the way the boat is framed in the circular reflection. MS...I'm left wanting more though and and wonder what the larger view of the reflected bridge and more foreground would look like? 27 Sep 2008 7:33am @Ted: The larger view would show you the castle (to the left) and a group of half-timbered houses (right). And a lot of clouds, the sun wasn't coming out before afternoon. Linerberry from Sumner, Christchurch, New ZealandWonderful ms.......I LOVE the reflection, its sooo perfect! An interesting 'slant' also leans one over to the right when viewing:-) very clever I like it! 27 Sep 2008 8:26am @Linerberry: My pleasure! The exhibition was really nice - these small towns can't compete with the big cities, so instead of presenting just another Picasso expo they concentrate on special interest themes like this Rottenhammer exhibition. I really like that. :-) GJC from Kyoto, JapanBeautiful glassy surface and nice mix of colors (that red boat is a wonderful touch). I might have cropped those leaves in the lower left corner. 27 Sep 2008 11:17am @JoeB: I discovered that circle only after taking the photo. Should be more alert. @Ana Lúcia: Unfortunately the count was out of the castle! :-) Observing from West Cheshire, United KingdomDelightful and quaint, and a picture of peacefulness. The reflection is excellent. Is this a moat...? Beautiful shot MS 27 Sep 2008 11:27pm @Observing: Yes, exactly, the bridge leads directly to the palace courtyard. @Howard F.: Thanks, Howard! akarui from Kagoshima, JapanPerfect circle with the red boat inside. Beautiful and peaceful. 28 Sep 2008 12:41am @akarui: Thanks! I clipped the grey clouds :) Laurent from Lyon, FranceI really like the composition of this one. 28 Sep 2008 6:44am @Laurent: Thanks, Laurent! I found this by coincidence - the path was quite broad and this boat was hidden quite well. GJC from Kyoto, JapanThanks for the links, which I enjoyed seeing. I'd still say the same on this photo after viewing the others, however. In the others the trees form a nice framing device that also give a good sense of perspective. Here the leaves are not prominent enough (to me) to be part of the overall composition, but they are included just enough to be slightly distracting. Fortunately photography is a wonderfully subjective art, and I respect the choices you've made and appreciate your sharing them with us. 28 Sep 2008 12:52pm @GJC: Thanks :-) Actually I had no choice: the upper part of the photo was rather washed out. Additionally I didn't want the boat in the center of the image (as it was in the original - bad mistake!). After cropping the twig in the foreground remain, but it's still better than the original. However, thanks for your suggestions! Twelvebit from Victoria, United StatesStowed for an assignation perhaps? Cool shot, well placed. 28 Sep 2008 4:37pm @Twelvebit: One of the few dry places on that day :) Thanks! @Pradeep: Almost missed this one as I tried to escape from the rain. Thanks! |
