@Linerberry: This church was built in 1914, only months before the belle epoque ended. Architectonically, it defers to the style of the 1920s and 30s.

@dj.tigersprout: Sometimes I persuade myself to see some kind of architectonical melancholy in this church, because it was finished at the end of an era, just months before WW I started.

@Observing: some UK companies where Iceland has shares in: Okay, not banks, I misunderstood that. But as I've found in the Guardian, following institutions:
"• Iceland's biggest bank, Kaupthing, has investments in Costcutter, Somerfield, Jane Norman and the Laurel Pub Company which manages the Slug & Lettuce chain. It jointly owns Kaupthing Edge, an internet savings bank with 150,000 British savers.
• Baugur, an Icelandic international investment company, has significant stakes in Iceland supermarkets, Moss Bros, French Connection, Woolworths, Saks, Whittard of Chelsea, Goldsmiths, House of Fraser, Whistles and Oasis" are / were backed by Icelandic banks, and "in 2004 alone Icelanders spent £894m on shares in British companies".

Iceland has had to borrow 4 billion euros from Russia
Or: 'Russia buys Iceland'. Who knows, maybe Russia needs a permanent aircraft carrier in the Atlantic Sea.

Germany will have big problems
Not yet, but as our economy is mainly export oriented there will be problems, no doubt. But the next knockout candidate is Ireland. Next week. This will have an impact on the British economy, and I think the EU will do a concerted measurement to prevent UK from fall. Maybe in the long run this will end the existence of private banks, better this than a chain of nations experiencing national bankruptcy, one after another.

@Ronnie 2¢: Yes, especially the roof is quite unique. One of the stranger landmarks of my city.
