Crossing the River,...Posted by MadScientist (Düsseldorf, Germany) on 10 December 2008 in Cityscape & Urban. on our way back home, we left the doomed town and followed the sun, heading westwards. We had to hurry up, as it would soonish outrun us and leave us behind, in the dark. (I know, I shouldn't have put this tower in the centre of this photo.) Download my coffee-table book of selected postings here. Enjoy!

PD from Overland Park, Kansas, United StatesGreat shot! Nice subjects in the bridge and the tower , and great colors. A really nice sunset 10 Dec 2008 5:06am @PD: I can't complain: many people don't even have sunlight for a few hours in winter like we have. But it's still too few, deprivation of light is even more tantalizing than low temperatures. Observing from West Cheshire, United KingdomExcellent theme, and the image has great saturated colors. I sense a story here ! 10 Dec 2008 5:19am @Observing: Many people think that Orient and Occident meet at the Bosporus, but actually it's happening here, at the frontline between bright and dark Germany. Linerberry from Sumner, Christchurch, New ZealandI actually don't mind the tower in the middle cos I think the height of the bridge to the right off sets it a bit. 10 Dec 2008 5:43am @Linerberry: The only sad thing is that it's a shot from 3 PM and just an hour (or two) before sunset. Hard times for sun worshippers like me. @MOHAMMAD: Thanks very much, Mohammad! Marie from Isère, FranceOui, un peu trop centré mais très beau coucher de soleil 10 Dec 2008 9:46am @Marie: Thanks a lot, Marie, très aimable! :-) @Michael Skorulski: Could have more of this! Thanks, Michael! Laurent from Lyon, Francegreat light and beautifully composed. I really don't mind for the tower in the center, there can be some expeptions to rules when it is beautifully made like this 10 Dec 2008 12:10pm @Laurent: It was 'calculated risk'. Thanks! :-) @Laurie: A rare moment, this is rainy city, you know... @Vink: Many thanks, Vink! Shirin Moosavi from Tehran, IranForget about the rules! This is one great shot, who cares about the rules! :) 10 Dec 2008 6:25pm @Shirin Moosavi: I'll take you up on that! Many thanks, Shirin! MaryB from Staffordshire, United KingdomYeah I agree with Shirin, don't even think rules, this is beautiful MS. 10 Dec 2008 8:10pm @MaryB: Nice to see some unrestrained ladies here! :-D @Mohammadreza Rezania: One of these moments like "hey, this looks really nice, maybe I should get that camera out of my bag...." Thanks! :-) @akarui: I'm so deprived of natural light I'm glad about every single sunbeam. :-) DarkElf from Perth, Australiatower looks ok where it is! you placed the horizon nice and low and the clouds in the background play a bif part - nicely done! 11 Dec 2008 3:19am @DarkElf: Thanks very much, DarkElf, glad to read this. :-) @Twelvebit: You bet! I was living for almost ten years on the wrong side of the river! :-) Twelvebit from Victoria, United States15 seconds to post my previous comment. If I link to say, Sherri's blog, a comment post is almost instantaneous --rarely takes more than a couple seconds. When it only takes 15 seconds here I feel lucky. 11 Dec 2008 3:33am @Twelvebit: Wait a sec... Ted from South Wales, United KingdomI'm looking for Will Smith as this looks very Je Suis Legend ( to use the French title). Great work. 11 Dec 2008 6:55am @Ted: I was in Omega Man mode when taking this photo. :) @Eleftheria!: I try to grab every ray of light I can! Ted from South Wales, United KingdomAh...you know your films! Both versions brilliant, sad and haunting. 11 Dec 2008 4:54pm @Ted: I personally prefer the original from 1971. "The Family" is far more tragic and interesting than the monsters of 'I am Legend' (though IAL has some very frightening scenes too). And I don't like that willingness to make sacrifices in IAL, as it adds a heroic subtone that you can't find in the original. |
