St. Maria im Kapitol, Trikonchos

Posted by

A look into the Trikonchos, the cloverleaf structure of St. Maria im Kapitol, Cologne. The forked crucifix (Crucifixus dolorosus) in the Northern chapel is special: it was made in 1304 and is considered to be one of the most expressive woes crucifixes of the Gothic period (detail at Wikipedia).

@Müge: Thanks very much, Müge!

Lilly from Atlantic Shores, United States

I love the lighting up front. Very warm shot, and the place seems massive!

@Lilly: That's right - it is the largest Romanesque church in Cologne (100m long, 40m wide). It takes a while to follow its walls.

Marie LC from Voiron, France

@akarui: This church has a very pure style, indeed.

Ronnie 2¢ from London, United Kingdom

Your image gives such a strong impression of the structure and of the spaces formed . . huge presence here.

@Ronnie 2¢: And the best thing: it's open and you just may come in and have a visit. Isn't that great to have such amazing places, just so?

Usual, nice job. I like it that you stopped down enough to produce the star pattern on the lights. It works so much better in this type shot than halos would, not to mention the additional dof.

@dang: I still have this UV filter on my lens...

Twelvebit from Victoria, United States

Very interesting.

@Twelvebit: Definitely. :)

Uv's are good protection for the lens, and shouldn't hurt being on most times. I think they're probably best removed when doing night shots though, since they increase the risk of flair. Didn't seem to bother anything here, it's a nice shot.

@dang: Thanks! :)
