Magnolia sp.

Posted by MadScientist (Düsseldorf, Germany) on 9 April 2009 in Plant & Nature.

One of the many Magnolia species, perhaps the yet unknown 'Ronniensis' cultivar :-)

According to the Red List of Magnoliaceae (D. Cicuzza, A. Newton, S. Oldfield; Fauna & Flora Int'l, Cambridge, UK), "112 Magnoliaceae taxa are threatened with extiniction in the wild. [...] A further nine taxa are considered to be Near Threatened and 10 are recorded as Data Deficient. [...] In total the results of this evaluation indicate that 131 Magnoliaceae taxa are threatened with extinction at a global scale. This is over half the known taxa within the family." (Source)
