Silly Tuesday: Twist And Shout

Posted by
MadScientist (Düsseldorf, Germany) on 9 June 2009 in Art & Design.

Revisiting St. Johannes Evangelist-Kirche, Berlin. Yes, the globes are still spinning, and the more I watch it and think about the world as a whole, the more I'm beginning to understand the artwork's hidden meaning. At least I hope so.

Sorry for being a bit quiet - work is quite overwhelming at the moment. I'll catch up with you very soon. John: Thanks for the plethora of comments! :-)

Evelyne Dubos from Le Mans, France

Oh ! yes i remember this place and the strange exhibition with the electric installation.... Perfect shot for silly tuesday, indeed....

@Evelyne Dubos: I've seen several art happenings in churches, but this one was definitely different! :)

Steven from Chicagoland, United States

A silly entry indeed with all these globes on turntables and wired as they are. I love the lighting here where only the floor is seen and no walls in the background.

9 Jun 2009 2:03pm

@Steven: Actually there were very thick walls, the room was very big, making this rather tiny installation look a bit forlorn... :-)

MaryB from Staffordshire, United Kingdom

Could this be a world record?..............groan he he! sorry i couldn't resist a great ST shot.

@MaryB: I think they should redesign a detail here, an idea there... then it might become a classic! Sort of. :-D

Ronnie 2¢ from London, United Kingdom

What a bizarre set-up this is . . could go crazy looking for a hidden meaning. Great contribution to The Day.

9 Jun 2009 4:21pm

@Ronnie 2¢: Listening to these squeaking record players was somewhat pacifying...

Jen from Alpharetta, United States

Great shot...the world can make you very dizzy!

10 Jun 2009 1:19am

@Jen: Better have something to cling to! ;-)

Aga from Bronx, United States

Wow this is awesome, and I mean that in the original meaning of the word.

10 Jun 2009 3:54am

@Aga: Those young guys responsible for this installation appeared quite harmless.... :-)

dj.tigersprout from New York City, United States

lol -- yes!!!

10 Jun 2009 3:56am

@dj.tigersprout: Coincidental discovery - I never expected that! :D

LauraS from Chico, United States

Interesting, but silly? clever...

10 Jun 2009 4:50am

@LauraS: Let's say there are at least traces of humor. :-)

Saeed Rasoulof from Tehran, Iran

Interesting shot :)

10 Jun 2009 10:23am

@Saeed Rasoulof: Nothing you see every day in a church! :-)

Laurent from Lyon, France

I remember of them! nice to see that they are still pinning.
but I still don't see the hidden (or not) meaning of this peace of art ;o)

11 Jun 2009 6:26pm

@Laurent: Just watch the photo for a few hours and the ideas will be coming... :-D

Twelvebit from Victoria, United States

If you haven't submitted this, or any of your similar previous shots, to File Magainze you should.

12 Jun 2009 10:07pm

@Twelvebit: I did so a few months ago, but they didn't answer; use it or lose it. :-)

Twelvebit from Victoria, United States

Months ago? I submitted this shot almost two years ago and they just used it last month.

14 Jun 2009 5:30pm

@Twelvebit: No kidding?

Twelvebit from Victoria, United States

Oh, and btw, they don't acknowledge receipt, they only send you an email they're going to use it a few days before they post it.

14 Jun 2009 5:31pm

@Twelvebit: Okay, I'll wait and see... :)
