Zum unbefleckten Herzen Mariens, Cologne

Posted by MadScientist (Düsseldorf, Germany) on 23 September 2009 in Architecture.

Maria Immaculata - the church of our unblemished Lady - has been rebuilt from its own remnants after the war, using remaining parts of the former Neo-Gothic church and its detritus for a new wing with a powerful yet ascetic architecture.

Due to few space it has been rebuilt in an angular church style, meaning that there is one wing for the Franciscan monks, and one for the laymen. The choir section is shared by both of them.

The Franciscans of this church are still supporting job- and homeless people.
