Bamberg Cathedral: VaultsPosted by MadScientist (Düsseldorf, Germany) on 3 October 2009 in Architecture and Portfolio. Bamberg Cathedral (Dom St. Peter and St. Georg) is a German Kaiserdom (a cathedral ordered by the German emperor) and is the dominating structure in Bamberg's skyline. Many key figures and symbols of the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation can be found here, like the famous Bamberg Horseman, the grave of the single canonized imperial couple and the only grave of a pope in Germany and north of the Alpes. The nave connects the two choirs of the cathedral; can you see the two grimacing faces in the vaults? Download my coffee-table book of selected postings here. Enjoy!
