Bamberg Cathedral: Looking Eastwards

This could be a shot from the "so-so" series, and you immediately can see why: getting all angles as they were meant to be, balancing the bright spots and the darker parts, and reducing the noise required a lot of processing. The price for taking a shot without a tripod. This was indeed a very difficult shot, but I didn't want to keep it back from you. This is a look into the other side towards the eastern choir of Bamberg cathedral. You might discover the famous Bamberg horseman attached to one of the pillars: we are going to have a closer look at this remarkable statue in a few days.

Actually...it is the perspective here that gives me a better feeling of the location! The metalic grey organ is cheered ny the red vaulted ceinling and the light/dark opposition of the interior renders the atmosphere of a place of prayer.I like this one more than the yesterday's !

@Japanalia: Looking at this side of the nave you have indeed a sight on more religious items than yesterday (pulpit and organ). However, this cathedral has always been a location of prayer as well as a monument of the emperor's (religious and secular) power.

So, there is another choir on the eastern top of the church.
The use of a tripod is not allowed in German churches?

@António Pires: Usually a tripd is no problem, especially not in the smaller churches (otherwise this shot would have been impossible). But the more famous a church is, the more likely the chance that somebody asks you to fold your tripod together (unless you have a chargeable 'professional license'). So it is, for example, in Cologne cathedral: world heritage, world famous, lots of tourists - you know the deal. I didn't dare to order such a license yet, as I guess it's quite expensive!

But to return to your question: I didn't try my tripod, as I wasn't keen on carrying it with me. I was already busy carrying 15 kgs of books we've found in the cities we visited. ;-)

I would not classify this as being from a "so-so" series. I love the perspective and contrasting color of the ceiling to the color of the wall.

@Ted: Not everywhere! If a cathedral has some touristic value there is a chance that you will have to purchase a 'professional license' (because you could be a pro and they want to participate in the money you make). In smaller churches this won't happen, though. But I didn't have a tripod with me, I even forgot to bag my shirts! (Which was okay, as we purchased plenty of books and we needed the extra room in our case...) ;-)
