Michaelsberg Abbey, Bamberg

Not unlike the cathedral, Michaelsberg Abbey, a former Benedictine monastery, is situated on one of the hills around Bamberg. This is the view from the rose garden. A short walk over steep streets, and we will watch and be astonished.

Wonderful ensemble, duly framed.
The roofs of the civil buildings in Bamberg are red (vibrant red), although the roofs of this monastery are dark gray. A distinctive sign?

@António Pires: I don't think so, there are many regional differences in building construction (including the roofs), so everything is possible. But it's true: the older and the more south German the city, the redder the roofs - maybe. You can find many roofing tiles on this website.

@Ronnie 2¢: Like the many regional differences, there are differences in building construction, too. See here many possible tile designs.

Great Abbey. Beautifully shot and framed. The roof looks very dramatic and almost black.

@Mike: This was a Benedictine abbey, not a mendicant order, so money was not an issue. :-)
