Michaelsberg Abbey, Bamberg: InteriorPosted by MadScientist (Düsseldorf, Germany) on 19 October 2009 in Architecture. Not a shot of big quality, but I want you to get an idea of the room's proportions. Especially will we have some closer looks at the ceiling, where architectural as well as botanical desires are being fulfilled. Download my coffee-table book of selected postings here. Enjoy!

Manmath from Bangalore, IndiaAmazing angle to view..Good eye for details...I love the earlier works as well... 19 Oct 2009 6:17am @Manmath: Many thanks, Manmath, I appreciate that! Mike from Shell village, United KingdomAn amazing shot, the extreme angle and detail is just brilliant. 19 Oct 2009 6:29am @Mike: A tripod would have been fine, but our luggage was too heavy any way. :-) Linerberry from Sumner, Christchurch, New ZealandIsn't it just incredible!!! Magnificent and outstanding work and amazing capture ms!!! You still inspire me to look up lol!! 19 Oct 2009 6:51am @Linerberry: The ceiling is remarkable, you'll like the next shots. @Ana Lúcia: Thanks a lot, Ana Lúcia! Pepe Villanueva Cabrera from Cuidad de Antipolo, PhilippinesWow! have you noticed that the flower painted at the ceiling looks like fresh. I love it! 19 Oct 2009 10:27am @Pepe Villanueva Cabrera: Restauration is an ongoing task here. :-) António Pires from Lisbon, PortugalThis image gives a good idea of the church's interior. A 10mm lens, when the view is not symmetrical, creates some sort of distortion. Not an easy focal length to use. As I don't use wide angles frequently, I still have a lot to learn, through trial-and-error or looking at other people's photos. 19 Oct 2009 10:28am @António Pires: You might be interested in this software (Windows, freeware). Japanalia from Yokohama, JapanWhat an unexpected ceiling.....Japanese touch? It is beautiful, but unusual in an abbey in Germany! There seems to be a beautiful organ up there, too! I'm looking forward to more details from this church! 19 Oct 2009 10:50am @Japanalia: It's a depiction of a 'heavenly garden'. More details tomorrow! dj.tigersprout from New York City, United Stateshmm -- why do i think of fresh herbs when i look at this? rosemary in particular!!! ;) 19 Oct 2009 1:48pm @dj.tigersprout: Almost 600 plant species can be found in these vaults! @B.Held: You'll like the next shots. :) JoeB from Brampton, CanadaThe ceiling height is almost equal to the length, the ceiling is surprising and spectacular. 19 Oct 2009 2:04pm @JoeB: It just seems so, the ceiling goes on further; behind our viewpoint crossing and choir are following, making this a really long hall. MARIANA from Waterloo, CanadaDon't get shy when I tell you this is masterpiece ;)) POV and compo are really outstanding ! 19 Oct 2009 3:11pm @MARIANA: No masterpiece at all (perhaps this one, if I would have to make a choice). Light was a bit unfortunate here, as it was quite harsh and coming from just one side. But you will love the ceiling shots. :) @Ted: Wait till you see the undistorted ceiling! :-) António Pires from Lisbon, PortugalThanks for the indication of the software. I already used it and I'm delighted. Up to now I was using paint.net, also freeware, that has several other features, but the one you indicated me is amazing, so simple and effective. 19 Oct 2009 8:28pm @António Pires: You're welcome :-) My tool of choice on the Mac is DxO Optics Pro (despite its flaws), where you have similar options. Steven from Chicagoland, United StatesQuite a beautiful and ornate pulpit that you have captured here with the wood carving. Interesting botanical elements that were introduced as part of the ceiling's design. 19 Oct 2009 8:53pm @Steven: Much better shots of this ceiling will follow soon. Evelyne Dubos from Le Mans, FranceThe use of the wide angle allows to give a good idea of the proportion and to admire a big part of this lovely ceiling. 19 Oct 2009 9:30pm @Evelyne Dubos: This was just the introduction. :-) @Veronelle: Many thanks, Veronelle! @Jen: Thanks very much, Jen! @akarui: Don't miss Wednesday's shot! Tammy-Cricket from Somewhere, United StatesSuch beautiful detail and warmth to this image. Very stunning. 20 Oct 2009 2:08pm @Tammy-Cricket: Don't miss the Wednesday shot! @Twelvebit: :-) |
