@Peter: Yes, that's very late Gothic style. The diagonal ribs don't have any supporting function here, they transformed into a pure design element. Ted from South Wales, United KingdomSuch intricate detail...perfectly captured as always! 24 Oct 2009 8:01am @Ted: Cheers, Ted! @Batkoï: Many thanks! Ronnie 2¢ from Atlantic Shores, United KingdomThis makes me think of choc piping on an iced cake . . it must have huge presence when being in the body of the church like this . . now, I an off to buy a cake. 24 Oct 2009 4:17pm @Ronnie 2¢: To be honest, I found the interior equipment a bit confusing. Trying to get a centered building with the altar in the middle, they turned round all benches and made them look into the direction of the very tiny altar. The big one in the choir thus became a minor matter. We'll have a look at this situation soon. António Pires from Lisbon, PortugalSo, happy birthday. 24 Oct 2009 9:17pm @António Pires: Thank you very much, António! Yes, Bach was cantor in this church. If this style is a palm tree style is beyond my knowledge; it's a very late Gothic style, where the diagonal ribs don't have any supporting function but act as decorative elements. Mike from Shell village, United KingdomIt makes one wonder how the craftsmen were able to get up there, let alone work for hours on end. But the result is beautiful. And Happy Birthday ahhh.... you still have youth on your side ;) 25 Oct 2009 1:23am @Mike: You really know how to make my day, Mike! :o) Tomorrow I'll catch up with your pictures. Japanalia from Yokohama, JapanHappy Birthday, Erik! Don't contemplate that intricately patterned church- sky too much, you're still young!!! 25 Oct 2009 11:02am @Japanalia: Erik is a fine name, but I would prefer my own: Manfred. :-) Thanks so much, Gabriela! akarui from Kagoshima, JapanI am a bit late but Happy Birthday! 25 Oct 2009 11:28am @akarui: Many thanks, Olivier! @dabbler: Thanks very much, dabbler! Japanalia from Yokohama, JapanWell...I'm sorry for misnaming you, BUT....I lived with the idea, until now, that your name is Erik. NOW...I know better, Manfred! Hope I am forgiven! 26 Oct 2009 5:43am @Japanalia: No sweat, Erik is a super name, just not mine... ;-) dj.tigersprout from New York City, United Statesi love these ceiling shots of yours mate!! ;) and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! hope it was a fine one -- thanks for the reminder with the link back to last year!! how do you feel about the world's state of affairs now? ;) 26 Oct 2009 2:16pm @dj.tigersprout: Many thanks, Jaycee! How I feel with a new market-radical government in Germany? I don't trust them. Especially the 'Liberals' try to avoid the worst plans of governmental sleuthing, but we'll see what that eventually means. The rest of the world: UK goes bust, the US already is... I'm buying lots of old books and stuff as long as my money has some value. :-) Philip from Cowbridge, United KingdomGreat photo - the red and cream/white is very stricking. One question - are these ceiling shots hand held or tripod? I am impressed with the lack of apparent lens distortion on all of your ceiling shots. 26 Oct 2009 9:00pm @Philip: No special effects here: the camera is just lying flat on the floor, looking up, with a remote shutter attached. The only step I'm doing before is adjusting ISO and exposure: almost always ISO 100 (or 200 if it's very dark), f10, 10mm, exposure as needed. That's all. The most difficult thing is to prevent people running through my image. :-) Twelvebit from Victoria, United StatesHave to rate this one at the top of the ceilings you've posted. 1 Nov 2009 6:57pm @Twelvebit: I'm preparing another book with ceilings only, you will like it. |
