St. Martin, Bamberg: SanctuaryPosted by MadScientist (Düsseldorf, Germany) on 14 January 2010 in Art & Design. A rich Baroque interior is awaiting us in St. Martin. On the left side we find the altar of the holy cross. The altarpiece of the main altar in the sanctuary shows the death of St Martin; a remnant of the old St Martin church before the parish moved to the Jesuit church due to the confusions of the German Mediatisation. The sculptures are the Jesuit saints Ignatius of Loyola and Francis Xavier, in the nave Francis of Borgia, Johannes of Goto, Stanislaus Kostka, Paulus Miki, Jacobus Chisai and Aloysius of Gonzaga; the saints John of Nepomuk, and Jacob. My sympathies to the people of Haiti. My (old) coffee-table book of selected postings. More MadScientist: eclecticimaging.tumblr.com, the guy behind this blog
