Michelangelo @ Bruges

Posted by MadScientist (Düsseldorf, Germany) on 19 November 2010 in Art & Design.

The sacrament chapel of the Church of Our Lady in Bruges hosts the famed Madonna by Michelangelo, his only sculpture in this country. Originally made for the cathedral of Siena (too expensive!), wealthy merchants from Bruges brought it to here.

I apologize, I'm a bit short in time. This will get better next week.

Ted from South Wales, United Kingdom

so...did they all jump the rope?

@Ted: You could walk freely around; the rope was only in front of the altar and around the marble communion rail. No crime scene here. :-)

António Pires from Lisbon, Portugal

Good. Shall we have a closer look?

@António Pires: I hate to disappoint you, but there's nothing more!

Ronnie 2¢ from Atlantic Shores, United Kingdom

I echo António's plea on the Michelangelo sculpture, please !

@Ronnie 2¢: Here you have the proof that I'm a complete philistine, as I did not a single detail shot in this church.

Phil Morris from Saskatoon,, Canada

Michaelangelo, The Master. So very beautiful, I am in complete awe !!

@Phil Morris: Rather seldom found on this side of the Alpes! :)

Japanalia from Yokohama, Japan

If possible...please...closer looks at the sculptures! There are many beautifully worked ornaments in the piece of marble before the altar, too.

@Japanalia: I apologize, I don't have any details shots. But Bruges is rather nearby, next time I won't forget! I promise!
