The Monument

Erected 1870/71 in honour of the fallen troops of the Franco-Prussian War (design: Johann Josef Olzem who also created a bigger column for Siegburg). The last time for German monuments in remembrance of a won war.

The monument looks to pre-date everything else in the shot . . interesting thoughts abound.

@Ronnie 2¢: A rather seldom seen monument. Their successors of 1918 and 1945 are much more abundant.

Looks like they were able to save the most important thing for this modern neighborhood. ;-)

@Steven: Some of the older buildings experienced 'embellishments' in the last decades. Pure 19th century houses can still be found in other streets.

I guess you've had to look hard to find this monument?

@Ted: It's rather small, so you might overlook it. But if you're coming from a rather boring region (like me), you're developing a look also for these non-premium attractions.
The Ramersdorf commandry was another building you won't find in most tourist guides. I know there are people who appreciate them. :-)
