Cologne Cathedral: St Paul WindowPosted by MadScientist (Düsseldorf, Germany) on 3 May 2011 in Art & Design and Portfolio. Progress, or: how to do better. This was one of the very first window photos I've shown at AM3, and finally, after its restoration is finished, I'm happy to make amends. First: proportions and perspective are now correct. Second, here is valid information about this window: This window is the reconstruction (1992-1994) of the St Paul Window from 1864, then donated by the Cologne–Minden Railroad Company and produced in Munich. It was destroyed in WW II. Dedicated to St Paul, it depicts his Damascus experience, among other scenes from his life. The four Greek church fathers can be seen in the lower part. @Ronnie 2¢: So are the donators! How many railway companies would spend their money on sacral art today? @António Pires: Everything else would be disappointing! :-) @Phil Morris: Maybe we have the same books. :-) When I'm looking at a good architecture (or window) photo I often think: I want to do this, too. In very rare cases I think: I've done this better. There's still a lot I have to learn, but getting all this appreciation is very encouraging. Thanks a lot, Phil! @Curly: Thanks a lot, Curly! There are many windows in the cathedral I have yet to master. Cologne Cathedral is my permanent touchstone. @Ted: Thanks, Ted! Light was almost too strong last Saturday. @Steven: Glad you like it, Steven! There are still many windows I'm completely sucking at! @Christine Walsh: So beards are hip again in NYC? ;) |
