I've seen more than ten swarms of geese last Saturday flying north- and eastwards. They can't be wrong, the last days of this winter have come. At last.
My (old) coffee-table book of selected postings.

@WABIKOJA: Thank you! This was at the beginning of that snow-rich in January, when we had snow as we didn't have in twenty years.
Great shot!!! I am happy your winters end is in sight but it means mine has yet to come!! Thank goodness I am going back to the UK for most of the NZ winter!!!

@Linerberry: Sounds fair - take the best of both hemispheres! :-)
Lovely image, looks sooooo cold :)

@Ina: It really was - a few days later we had temperatures at -11°C. That was well below my personal highscore of -8°.
Nice shot...very minimalist. The light is superb :)

@Pradeep: I had to brighten it up a bit, this photo was taken only minutes after the big snowfall. Very unusual weather phenomenon here.
Sounds like the geese are headed here . . must have heard my daffodils are now in bloom in London.

@Ronnie 2¢: So they do here! It was about time!
Lovely, cool shot (in more ways than one!). Will be glad when the spring is here myself!

@MrsAmber: Fortunately temps are already rising and they days get longer - winter definitely isn't my favourite season!
Nice capture here above the trees. I particularly like the random lines created along the shoreline with the snow-covered ice. I sure hope you are right regarding the end of winter.

@Steven: I think so, hundreds of geese can't be wrong! :-)
I think Spring is coming too! we have had two beautiful day's the sun shining and buds appearing everywhere. It's hard to imagine that just a few weeks ago, the place was covered in a blanket of snow!
Beautiful shot MS.

@MaryB: Thanks, Mary! You on your island are sitting pretty, I wished we had your mild (average) temperatures! ;-)
Cold and barren.

@Twelvebit: In summer it's a lush and green place...
Perhaps "constructed" or "unnatural" would be better terms than "barren."

@Twelvebit: These are the flood meadows of Düsseldorf. If we didn't have them, the city would be flooded at least two times a year. Cologne has sealed and obstructed its meadows and experiences many more flodd problems than we do.
Still looks a little desolate here.

@PD: I took this shot two months ago. If it was from yesterday... Heavens! :-D
I like this one!

@gandz: Thanks! (But I'm glad that it's getting warmer now!)
Still a lot of snow but spring will be there soon...

@akarui: I shot this two months ago. Spring is approaching fast, thanks God!
Lets hope so...we are digging out from our biggest snow storm this season. It wasn't that bad here in my county but counties just south of me got slammed pretty hard.

@Laurie: Your weather phenomena are much tougher than ours. Even by our standards it was a quite hard winter with a week of heavy snowfall that wasn't seen here in twenty years. I'm now expecting a hot summer! :-)
I wish you could be right...
3 Mar 2009 5:42am
@Laurent: Trust me, trust me... :-)
Nice view & atmosphere. May be a little too much sky ??
3 Mar 2009 8:24pm
@Evelyne Dubos: Oh, please leave me that sky! I'm living in a very crowded area, the sky sometimes is my only empty space! :-)
