De Krijtberg, Amsterdam: Altar

Posted by

Another wonderful altar in De Krijtberg. This one can be found in the porch and might be used when the gates to the nave are closed. Another wonderful piece of art I'd like to have some information about.

Bishop from Houston, United States

Love the solemn atmosphere in this church!

@Bishop: Actually I found it quite serene; it doesn't have that bloody note that Baroque churches sometimes have.

dj.tigersprout from New York City, United States

beautiful light and colors!

@dj.tigersprout: Thanks, Jaycee!

akarui from Kagoshima, Japan

Beautiful details of this Altar and light.

@akarui: Compared to other altars, the light conditions were excellent.

Twelvebit from Victoria, United States

Beautiful shot, nicely lit.

@Twelvebit: A quick shot, looks better than I did expect.

Japanalia from Yokohama, Japan

I watched this one several times...without leaving comments. I agree the light falling on the statue and the dark enveloped altar make for a good effect, but.....there are disturbing side things....

@Japanalia: That's the difference between a museum sample and a church: this altar is 'in use', it has to be available for people and if course you find books, papers, kneelers and all that stuff that disturbs one's art appreciation. But actually this altar is a tool.
