St Vitus: Tympanum

Posted by
MadScientist (Düsseldorf, Germany) on 25 October 2010 in Art & Design.

Hitting 44 is easy with such great people like you! Many thanks for the good wishes, folks!

This is the tympanum at St Vitus, Prague. A work from the 19th century, depicting the cruxifixion, the cast of dice about the garment of Jesus, and the deposition from the cross.

P. Morris from Canada

This is just too brilliant a work. You present this so detailed and in
all its glory !! 5***** !

@P. Morris: B/W was the only choice here; it was a rather dull day and contrasts were very low. Thanks so much, Phil!

Lucie from Mannheim, Germany

Wonderful detail! I'm from Prague so I can tell ;)

@Lucie: Many thanks, Lucie! Prague became my instant favourite!

Ronnie 2¢ from Atlantic Shores, United Kingdom

So admire how they worked that fine detail in to draw the pilgrims to the doorway . . powerful stuff beautifully presented, as always.

@Ronnie 2¢: Many thanks! Another answer for the question: they don't do it like then anymore! This tympanum is just 100 years old (or even younger).

MARIANA from Waterloo, Canada

wonderful monochrome . brillaint details !

@MARIANA: The pleasures of B/W: original contrast was quite low.

Olivier from Manage, Belgium

superb B&W!

@Olivier: Many thanks, Olivier!

Ted from South Wales, United Kingdom

Japanalia from Yokohama, Japan

You got 44? Wow! Exquisitely young you are! Happy anniversary! (You plan to be here at 88?!)

26 Oct 2010 6:04am

@Japanalia: I hope that people are buying my books when I'm 88! ;-)
Thank you so much!

Céline from New York City, United States

Beautiful contrast for this nice b&w shot !

27 Oct 2010 7:07pm

@Céline: B/W was a must here! :-)

Christine Walsh from Astoria, NY, United States

Seems like almost perfect symmetry. I feel like I could make a fold at Jesus and the lineup would match. Love the b&w.

@Christine Walsh: Many thanks!
