@MissT: I think it is just a reminder of mortality. The fasces are a pointer to heavenly justice, I think.
I think I recognize one of the three faces . . saw him on the street this very morning outside Starbucks !

@P. Morris: If we had done our trip to Kutna Hora (unfortunately my wife had a fever, so next time), you would have seen much more macabre things. I hope we'll have our next visit next year!

It would be much easier if we got used to the idea of death from the very beginning of Life.......but...we don't think much of it while we're alive.
